- The ten-year agreement enables the construction of two solar projects, Ginosa and Bellomo, totaling 16 MWdc across Puglia and Sicily respectively
- Zelestra is advancing a multi-technology pipeline comprised of solar and battery energy storage solutions in all major regions of Italy to decarbonize customers in any local load zone
- With a pipeline of 0.5 GW today, Zelestra has the ambition to triple its portfolio in Italy in the next two years
BKW, a leading energy and infrastructure company based in Switzerland, has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Zelestra, a global, multi-technology, customer-focused renewable energy company.
Through this agreement, BKW partners with Zelestra to co-build a carbon-free tomorrow for Italy and its customers. This agreement represents Zelestra’s strong aspirations to build a large platform offering solutions to customers in Italy.
The agreement will enable BKW Energie AG to purchase power generated by two solar plants located in Puglia and Sicily. The Bellomo plant, located in Modica, Sicily, will have an installed capacity of 9.5 MWdc and will help avoid approximately 6,500 tons of CO2 per year. The Ginosa plant, located in Ginosa, Puglia, will have an installed capacity of 6.5 MWdc and displace nearly 4,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Eliano Russo, Zelestra’s Country Manager in Italy, highlighted the importance of this agreement for the company, stating, “This partnership with BKW represents a key step in our strategy to consolidate our position as a major player in the Italian renewables market. We are committed to expanding our project portfolio in Italy to 1.5 GW by 2026. This agreement confirms our focus on creating sustainable, tailored solutions that support both Italy’s energy transition and BKW’s decarbonization journey.”
Stefan Sewckow, Head of Energy Markets at BKW, said “This 10-year PPA in Italy marks a significant milestone in our company’s journey toward delivering on our strategic vision for sustainable growth. By aligning with Italy’s ambitious renewable energy goals, we are reaffirming our commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and creating value for our stakeholders. This partnership exemplifies our dedication to being at the forefront of the clean energy transition in Europe.”
Zelestra currently owns 31 projects under development in Italy, with a total capacity of 0.5 GW. The company plans to rebalance and diversify its portfolio by incorporating multiple technologies, expanding its battery energy storage portfolio, and growing across all major regions in Italy.
