In a significant stride towards a sustainable future, Kallpa Generación has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Zelestra for the San Martín solar plant, the largest in Peru’s history. This collaboration supports Kallpa’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and achieving its long-term environmental goals.
The San Martín solar plant will generate over 830 GWh of clean energy annually, powering more than 440,000 homes and preventing over 564,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year. This landmark project will also create 450 local jobs during construction, fostering economic growth in the La Joya district of Arequipa.
Scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025, the San Martín project exemplifies Zelestra’s commitment to meeting the energy needs of its clients through innovative and sustainable solutions. Leo Moreno, global CEO of Zelestra, stated: “The San Martín project reaffirms our ability to develop, contract, and construct large international projects, providing our customers with reliable and timely solutions. We are proud to assist Peru in reducing its carbon footprint and promoting socioeconomic development through job creation and social benefits.”
Rosa María Flores-Araoz, CEO of Kallpa, commented: “This agreement and the project launch enable us to continue diversifying energy sources for our clients in Peru. It reinforces the strength of the Peruvian electrical system to promote non-conventional renewable energy projects, contributing to a more sustainable and secure energy matrix.”
This PPA with Kallpa underscores Zelestra’s international diversification strategy and commitment to forming strong partnerships with leading clients, advancing the global transition to renewable energy.
